Could Irregular And Heavy Periods Be A Sign Of Menopause?

Hi I am a 50 year old female. I think I'm periposal. The last 12 months I have had no period for 3 months then a heavier period on one month. Since August of this year I am bleeding almost every second week. The blood is bright red no clots. Some pain. Very emotional. My father passed away yesterday as well. I also had an uteral ablation ten years ago. Since the ablasion I was having spotting on time of my monthly cycle. The blood was dark not bright. Is what I'm experiencing now a period every second week or so with bright red blood normal?? It will last about 1-2 days and then stop.
