Could Irritation And Burning In Eyes Be Due To Dilation Procedure?

Hi. I had an eye exam 48 hours ago and they did the dilation test with eye drops. The night of my exam my eyes started getting irritated and they still burn. I went in for a recheck but he found nothing. Could this be a side effect? When will it go away?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dear thanks for the question.

Yes your symptoms and history suggests that symptoms you have are because of dilation side effects. It is a transient side effect, it subsides in two to three days. As a practising physician I ask my patients to wait and observe for such problems. I prescribe medications(cetrizine tab, hydrocortisone eye drop)only when symptoms are not bearable.

I would like to advise you to wait for few more days, if symptoms still persist visit your eye doctor.

I hope i have clarified your queries. Do write for follow up queries. I wish you rapid recovery. Thank you.
