Could Light Bleeding With Spotting During Pregnancy Be A Matter Of Concern?

I am 9 weeks pregnant. Today, I had my first appointment. I was spotting all day today, so the doctor scheduled an ultrasound for tomorrow. When I got home, the bleeding was heavier - not filling a pad - but more in the toilet. I did have a pap smear, so I knew to expect some blood, but there was also some clotting. Should I go to the emergency room?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, Welcome to HCM.
I can understand your problem.
Any type of vaginal bleeding in first 12 weeks may be a sign of threatened abortion and is a matter of concern.
I advise you to go to emergency room immediately for further check up like ultrasound and blood tests. Early management with progesterone would reduce the chance of miscarriage.
By that time, you should take complete bed rest and avoid caffeine, alcohol & cigarettes.
Hope this will be helpful.
Take care.
