Could Low Potassium Levels Be Related To Thyroid Medication?

I had a total thyroidectomy in 2013. I have never had issues with potassium levels before but ive taken klor kon once because my levels went so low, and just got a call its low again. is there a link between low potassium and thyroid issues or thyroid medication?

Hi,
Yes there can be possibility of low potassium (hypokalemia) due to thyroid medications.
Here,thyroid hormone uncommonly might lead to movement of potassium from the extracellular fluid into the muscle cells causing potassium depletion in blood.
It depends on the dose of thyroxine drug and since how long you are taking it.
Consult your physician for dose titration if there is hypokalemia.
