Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi! Is it possible that antibiotics like lymecycline can cause vaginal dryness/not getting wet enough during sexual intercourse? Am about to take it for acne, and antibiotics usually gives me bad yeast infections, so was just wondering if it could possible affect my sexlife aswell. Female, 22
Lymecycline belongs to the group of antibiotic medications known as tetracycline which is mainly used to help alleviate the symptoms of acne by killing the bacteria that cause the infection and subsequent inflammation. It is also used to treat bacterial infections such as bronchitis, pneumonia, mycoplasma infections and trachoma which is a form of conjunctivitis. Some people get a fungal infection called thrush after taking a course of antibiotic medications like Lymecycline. Antibiotics like Lymecycline can kill the normal harmless bacteria that prevent the overgrowth of yeast in the vagina.
Symptoms include dryness, redness and itching in the vagina. Women may experience vaginal bleeding during sexual intercourse due to vaginal dryness caused by Lymecycline. You can use antifungal cream like Clotrimazole for vaginal thrush and lubricants during sexual activities. If these side effects persist for long or bother you, then you should consult your doctor promptly for medical help.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
