Could My Doctor Be Tapering Me Off Nortriptyline Since He Has Reduced The Dosage From 50mg To 10mg?

My Dr. cut my dose of Nortriptyline HCL 50 MG down to 50 MG to 10 MG with out talking to me. He did it thru the pharmacy. I went to refill my prescription of 50 MG and they told me it had been lowered to 10 MG. The Dr. never even notified me and then went on a weeks vacation. That was just about a week ago and I have the horrible needle like pain back like I did before. Is it possible that he should maybe should have tapered me off?

Hello,
Antidepressants are tapered off gradually before you stop them entirely.
The tapering and withdrwal should be gradual.
In your case it would have been better if the dose was reduced by 10 mg every 10-15 days so that body could adjust gradually to the lower dose.
You must discuss about it with your resting doctor.
Thanks
