Hi,
Deanxit has a combination of two drugs -- Fluxopentixol is mainly an anxiolytic drug and Melitracen mainly an anti-depressive drug. The drug is effective on a vast no. of mental conditions including
anxiety,
depression and
schizophrenia etc. Though no satisfactory data are available on the comparative addictiveness and habit forming tendencies of
Amitriptyline, Xanax, Deanxit and
Cipralex, still addictiveness and habit forming tendencies may be in descending order as -- Xanax, Amitriptyline, Deanxit and Cipralex.
However, effectiveness of Cipralex on mental disorders seems less as compared to Deanxit. Therefore over all Deanxit appears an effective drug on many of the mental disorder. No major studies have shown any major side effect of Deanxit. However, a small study had shown a small effect of a limb tremor which resolved with discontinuation of medicine.
No concrete reasons have been presented for banning this drug by the govt. of Denmark, the country of origin of this drug. Indian Govt. has generally a policy of banning a drug, if it is banned in the country of its origin. So, in my opinion your
neurologist seems right in prescribing you Deanxit.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
