Could My Husband Experience Pain Like A Heart Attack Before Becoming Unconscious?
My husband died suddenly after playing handball. He was 50 years old. The doctor who did the autopsy said the cause was an enlarged heart. Hypertrophic cardiomyapthy. The night it happened would he have experienced pain like a heart attack befor he became unconscious?
Hello! Thank you for asking on HCM! I understand your concern and I would like to explain you that facing his clinical diagnosis, it is possible he may have suffered chest pain and ischemic heart symptoms before the fatal event. nevertheless, hypertophic cardiomyopathy predisposes also to life-threatening arrhythmia, and when this happens it may lead to death if not promptly treated. So, there are some possibilities of the clinical scenario before the last fatal event. Hope to have been helpful. Greetings! Dr. Iliri
