Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello Have just had thyroxine increased from 175 to 200mcg in last 6 weeks and have started to have a big increase in nightmares. I have always had them but not 3 a night like last night and not so often. Could it be connected to levadopa? Thanks Lou
Hi. I've gone through your query and I can understand your anxiety.
Parkinson's disease is treated with medications like dopaminergic agents - levodopa/carbidopa, amantadine,Permax etc. This could disrupt night sleep by 2 ways. 1. By direct effect on the sleep/wake regulation cycle. 2. Because of end of dose symptoms.
By these 2 mechanisms they can cause intense nightmares that disrupt sleep.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care.
Regards, Dr. Yogapriya V, General and family physician.
