Could Numbness On The Surgical Site Post Removal Of Plate Be A Matter Of Concern?
Hi my son had an operation to repair his broken collar bone on May 31st this year. He has just had the plate and 3 screws removed and has no pain at all at the site. He said that the wound site has been numb since the first operation. The anaesthetist talked about doing a block when she visited him before the removal. Should i be worried that he has no pain anywhere in the site?
* The usual effects of local anesthesia used for plate removal in ortho surgery lasts for a period of maximum 4-6 hours.
* If the tingling and numbness do persists beyond a period of 24 hours or more, one should be cautious to consult ortho surgeon operated over the area even though there is no pain anywhere.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
