Could Painful Hard Knots At The Site Of Injection Be Due To Swelling Of Soft Tissue?
Hi. My name is Patricia I been giving myself injections in my stomach, thighs and back side since 2007. Now I developed hard knots there the size a lemon and very very painful. I went to ER I was told I had soft tissue swelling and it will take time. What else can I do? HELP
Hi Patricia, You have not mentioned the injection name and route in your question which will help to make a clear diagnosis since you are taking it from 8 years. It could be superficial thrombophlebitis or lipohypertrophy or vasculitis. If it has grown lemon size then you can take antibiotics ( cephalosporins preferred), analgesics with antiinflammatories, anticoagulants ( oral warfarin) or can apply thrombophob cream or ointment topically. Frequent change of injection site with anticoagulants helps to prevent further problem. You should consult surgeon for further advice.
