Could Persistent Fever In An Infant Be Due To Viral Infection?

Today is the 3rd day my daughter has had a fever. She will be 2 on Sunday. Fever started at 101. Was 104 yesterday. Was 104.6 9 1/2 hours after 5mL of Motrin. Called her doctor took her in. everything looked great. Did blood work everything looked great. Said she had a viral infection to fight. Her temp was 104.3 at 1:30. Gave her Motrin. Checked her temp 15 min ago it was already 104.6 and she isnt suppose to have more medicine until 7:30 at least. Is this viral or is it more?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM!

Yes the common cause of fever at children of this age is a viral infection if nothing else is found to be the reason of the symptoms. Just keep under control the temperature with motrin as your doctor has prescribed it, give a lot of fluids to drink. You may give vitamins and probiotics since the relief is quicker. If your daughter shows any symptoms that wasn't before please contact your primary care doctor to see your daughter again.

Hope she will be fine soon.
Kind regards!
Dr Eriol.
