Could Persistent Pain In Lower Back Be Due To Arthritis?

I fell straight back onto the ground I laid still and didn t really feel any pain until several days later my lower back started hurting worse than usual. Since I have arthritis on my lower back I m thinking the fall just irritated it more is this a possibility?

Hi,

Brief Answer:
Injury provokes arthritis of the joints.

Detailed answer:
Arthritis is the condition involving joints because of swelling and inflammation. There are two common types. Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Osteoarthritis involves the cartilage covering the bones of the joints. This is because of chronic wear and tear of the joint. Major causes are age, obesity and injury.

The cartilages are damaged over the period time because of the stress given to it. Obesity increase the stress over the joint results in early arthritis. Arthritis is common in the injured joints. Osteoarthritis is commonly seen in the weight bearing joints. Rheumatoid arthritis is the one involving the joint capsule, bones of the joints and the cartilage. Most of the time, there is genetic history. Since you had an injury, chances of damage to the arthritic joint is more.

Suggestion:
Analgesics and NSAIDS are helpful to overcome the pain and swelling of the joints. Physiotherapy and exercise reduces the pain in the joints. Surgery is the terminal option, if the pain persists and also if the condition worsens.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
