Could Persistent Symptoms After Antibiotic Treatment For Bacterial Vaginosis Indicate A Resistant Infection Or A More Serious Issue?

Hello. I recently was diagnosed with Bacterial Vaginosis was put on antibiotics but it didn’t help. I have pain on the right ovary at times. I have a foul smell and brownish blood like discharge daily. Could I still have BV that was resistant to the antibiotics or am I looking at something more serious?

Hi,

Do you have fever? How long and which antibiotic have you taken? Did you took in regularly? When was your last period? Is there any bleeding in between your cycle?

It is better to take a pelvic scan to rule out pelvic inflammatory disease and to do a HVS (High vaginal swab) to rule out infections. Meanwhile, you can take Sitz bath (Take a tub with warm water either Betadine or Epsom salt and sit for 15-20 minutes in that water).

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
