Could Plugged Nostril And Scab On Nose Cause Constant Difference In Sense Of Smell?
I have had a smell and somewhat of a taste of a different odor....seems like the things like coffee and perfume don t smell like they used to...they all smell the same. Almost a garlic like smell...it s not a pleasant smell. I do have one side of my nostril that seems a little plugged and I am continually getting a scab in my nose. Could this be related?
Plugged nose and scabs cause blockage of the nasal passageways and damage the tissue lining the nose. They cause inflammation or swelling and a loss of nerve transmission from sensory neurons in the nose to the brain. Thus, causing anosmia. You are suggested to maintain good hygiene, do not pick or scratch. Keep it moisturized.
You are suggested to get clinically examined by an ENT. Get X-ray PNS done to detect any sinus problem, nasal deviation, etc that causes your nose to get plugged. Get it treated. Treatment with steroids can usually clear this up and restore your sense of smell.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
