Could Positive Result In HPT Post Abortion Suggest Presence Of Hcg Levels In System?

Hi I had an abortion 6 weeks ago JUNE 20th and had unprotected sex with my boyfriend but he pulled out around 3rd week after abortion. I took a pregnancy test today July 20th & it was positive. Could I be pregnant or could it be that the hcg levels are still in my system since it s only been 1 month now since the abortion??

Hi,

False - Positive test can be seen in conditions like:
- During your menstrual cycle
- Pregnancy followed by incomplete miscarriage (uterine tissues continues to producing hCG)
- Expired pregnancy test
- Certain drugs
- Ectopic pregnancy etc.

Post abortion for a maximum of 4 weeks you might get a positive HCG test. But in your case it is almost 6-8 weeks duration. Also, there was an act of unprotected sex 3 weeks before. Hence, I advise you to go ahead with a scan to rule out retained products or gestational sac if any.
