Hi,
Noted the history about an elderly active lady having pain in abdomen,
constipation for which
Miralax is prescribed and still taking it, already been diagnosed as
diverticulitis hence the Miralax.
Surely yes, miralax can cause irritation of the intestines causing pain and so but this is usually spasmodic that it comes and goes.
Since you are old I would advise you to undergo the following:
Review
CT scan regularly to rule out any cancer development, to know the present status of divericuli and to find or rule out any other conditions responsible for the pain in abdomen.
Also discuss with your Gastroenterologist about hte possible cause and how you can change over to foods or to another
stool softener or laxative to avoid constipation.
Be active as you are once a proper diagnosis and management is done.Identify the foods and beverages that increase constipation and pain in abdomen.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
