Could Protruding Stomach While Sitting Indicate Weakening Of Stomach Wall?
I am 64. I believe I have a weakening of the stomach wall just above my navel, about an inch to an inch and a half wide and about 4-5 inches in length, which protrudes when I, say, do sit ups or sit up in bed. There is no pain. What exactly is goin on here, and should it, can it, be fixed. I do lift light weights, multiple reputations, 2-3 times a week.
Hello, thanks for posting on HCM. As per the history you give here, it looks like you have what is called as ‘paraumbilical hernia’. It occurs when there is weakening in abdominal wall and structures like fat or bowel protrude through it superficially. The only treatment for this condition is surgery and repairing the weakened portion with surrounding structures. It is indicated when the hernia is associated with symptoms like pain, strangulation or defect is more than 1 cms which in your case it is. I would advise you to consult a general surgeon for the same and get a USG scan of abdomen to look for the severity of defect. I hope I have given satisfactory answer to your query, if you still have any more query kindly write back to me and I will be happy to help. Thank you
