Could Purplish Circle On Head Of Penis Be Due To STD?
Hi, I had unprotected sex early Wednesday morning and noticed a small purple circle on the head of my penis three days later (Saturday). The circle is not elevated, does not hurt, has the same texture/consistency as the rest of the head, and looks somewhat like a bruise. Is it possible for this to be an STD or perhaps a syphilis chancre (there is a syphilis outbreak in my area)? I also masturbated Wed, Th (2x), and Friday. Perhaps a popped blood vessel in the head (does that exist?)
Hello and welcome to HCM, Purple colored circle on head of penis could be a bruise. Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) do not cause formation of bruise. STDs are characterised by ulcer, lymph node enlargement, discharge, or rash on genital region. Syphilis is characterised by formation of painless ulcer on external genitalia and it has an induration at the base. Trauma to the penis can be responsible for the bruise. Masturbation can lead to trauma to the penile head. However, STDs do not usually cause such a symptom. Clinical assessment will help to determine the exact nature of the lesion thus consult your primary healthcare provider.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
