My daughter had a fever sore throat and cough on Tuesday. I am sure it was the flu since everyone else has now had it. She seemed fine Wednesday and Thursday other than a bad cough. Yesterday she had a fever again and now again tonight? Not sure if this is still the flu or if it is bronchitis?
Hi there, The history that you are giving is quite suggestive of a viral infection. It could be Influenza as you say, but there are a number of other viruses that can cause similar problems. Heamophilus Influenza and Staphylococcus aureus are two of typical bacteria that can infect a person already infected with flu (superinfection) and the resultant pneumonia might be severe. Its therefore suggested to take your daughter to nearby primary health center. Chest X-ray, Blood tests like Full Blood Count with ESR and blood cultures could be helpful as would be throat swabs and sputum examination, after the examining physician deem them necessary. Meanwhile give her paracetamol and cough syrups. Wishing quick recovery of your child Best Regards Dr. Nauman
