Could Red Yeast Rice Cause Thrush?

I am having a burning sensation in my lips, and they are slightly swollen. The skin on the underside is red. I am a snorer, and have used products that help align jaw and tongue to alleviate the problem. I seem to be sensitive to silicon or similar materials, and have had issues in the past with these appliances, but this seems different. My sister and I both take red yeast rice to help control elevated cholesterol, and she recently mentioned to me that she has thrush. So...I am wondering if it could be caused by red yeast rice. Maybe that's my mouth issue rather than silicon sensitivity.

I am sorry to hear about your problem and will try me level best to solve it to the best of my knowledge and experience...

As per your complain burning sensation and swelling of lips along with redness on the underside of the lips seems to be most probably due to allergic reaction and can be due to any food or medication..

Red yeast rice can be a cause for the symptoms that you are facing as it might be causing you allergic reaction..

It does not seems like thrush as it represents as thick white cheesy patches and it seems to be more of allergic reaction..

I would suggest you to consult an Allergist and get evaluated and he can do a thorough clinical evaluation and advise you accordingly..

As of now you can take anti histamine like benadryl to reduce the swelling and burning sensation..
Do cool compresses over the lips..
Do cool water rinses and suck ice pops..
Avoid spicy foods and drink plenty of water..
