Could Regular Intake Of Benadryl (antihistamine), As It Relieves Burning Mouth Syndrome, Cause Dizziness?
My mother,69, has had burning mouth syndrome for years. She takes Benadryl twice a day for this as it seems to help. She has had sporadic esophageal spasms once every few months. Also every few months she has times where she is lightheaded for a few hours that gets worse until she just goes to sleep. She does not get sweaty or flushed, just off balance. Then she feels better after a few hours of sleep. Low blood pressure runs in family. She will not go to the dr. Could the dizziness be caused by the antihistamines?

Dear Friend. Yes anti histaminics , benadryl can cause dizziness. Also they cause dizziness indirectly by sedation. Concern is that your mother is an old lady , you never know that this dizziness is because of some heart problem or stroke. It s your duty to force her and convince her for evaluation. She needs ECG and other tests. As far as your query is concerned , yes anti histaminics can cause feeling of dizziness. Stay Healthy.
