Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had acute renal failure as an 8yr old that was caused from E.coli. I was on dialysis for a couple weeks before my kidneys began working again. I m grateful to be alive. I then was diagnosed epilepsy at the age of 15 or so. I have been seizure free for over 5 years now. I am now 22 years old and am just curious if there is any relation between renal failure and epilepsy. Also I’m curious if there is any lasting damage on my kidneys, scar tissue maybe? I have more recently been healing my gut flora because of the heavy use of antibiotics when I had E.coli. Thoughts? Thanks in advance.
Thank you for folowing up.It has been an issue about which there can be considerable debate. There are,of course, seizures ca arise in renal failure due to toxins accumulation and to complications like sepsis, hemorrhage, hypertension, pH and hydroelectrolytic disturbances. The main difficulty is your seizures started at te age of 15, so i am not definitely confident, that it is related to renal failure. In kidneys there are some scars can be left after infection and inflammation, but if you have normal urine analysis and urine culture then don't worry. Taake care!
