Could Severe Anemia With Low Iron Level Be Due To History Of Gastric Bypass?

i AM A 45 YEAR OLD FEMALE, POST GASTRIC BYPASS PATIENT WITH A TOTAL IRON LEVEL OF 4. IN THE RECENT PAST, I HAVE HAD SEVERE ANEMIA AND HAD VENOFER (SP?) INFUSIONS THAT TOOK MY LEVEL TO A 22. THAT WAS A YEAR AGO AND NOW ITS LIKE IT WAS NEVER DONE. IS THIS A RESULT OF THE BYPASS? I HAVE LOST 150 LBS AND WEIGH 151. I AM EXPERIENCING BLURRY VISION AND AM WANTING TO KNOW IF THIS IS PART OF THE ANEMIA? ALSO WILL THIS BE A CHRONIC CONDITION? I LOVE MY INTERNIST, BUT FEEL SOMETIMES HE IS NOT APPROACHABLE WITH SUCH QUESTIONS... MY BYPASS WAS THREE YEARS AGO IN JUNE.

Hello Dear
Warm welcome to HealthcareMagic

I have evaluated your query in details .
* Iron absorption takes place in duodenum and jejunum , so gastric bypass is not responsible for low hemoglobin for sure .

Hope this will help you for sure.
Wishing you fine recovery .
Welcome for any further guidance .
Regards
