Could Severe Cough Be Due To Early Small Airway Dysfunction?
Hello Doctor, woman aged 38, for last one year, coughs continuously for 1 to 2 minutes once or twice a day while awake and for 1 to 2 minutes once or twice a day while asleep. She underwent Pulmonary Function Test and was diagnosed with Early Small Airway Dysfunction Below are the test results: Please let me know if this is curable and if so, what is the treatment? Thanks for your question on HCM. In my opinion you should start inhaled bronchodilators. As small airway obstruction can be due to 1. Acute bronchitis 2. Early COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) 3. Asthma. So better to start inhaled bronchodilators for 15 days and get done repeat PFT (pulmonary function test). Compare with current report. This will tell you about disease, you are suffering from. So no need to worry, consult pulmonologist and discuss all these. Small airway disease is treatable.
