Could Severe Cough Be Related To Trigeminal Neuralgia?
I have had trigeminal neuralgia for almost 6 mos. & at the same time it began I started having a cough in the upper part of my lungs & coughing spasms when I ate. Is there a connection? I had all the other painful symptoms of trigeminal neuralgia also & still do.
Hi dear, I have gone through your case and I can understand your concern. Your cough is related to eating, so this is a disease called gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) due to acid reflux from stomach that provokes cough reflex. On the other hand, this cough triggers your trigeminal neuralgia. Take Nexium (esomeprazole) 40 mg once daily is drug of choice for GERD. It is a proton pump inhibitor that decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach. Avoid drinks like cola, coffee, wine, foods like chocolate, spicy foods, potatoes, bad posture after eating meals (eat one or two hours before going to bed) , sleep with elevated head by two pillows, are some general measures but very helpful along with treatment which requires several weeks to show its results. Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions. Wishing you good health. ***KINDLY RATE AS HELPFUL***
