Could Severe Lower Abdominal Pain Be Due To Ruptured Cyst?
Lower abdominal pain to left side. Rated 9 on scale 1-10. Went to ER, got two po antibiotics and a shot of rocephin. Saw regular obgyn in 3 days. Felt possible cyst during pap. Ordered US of pelvic area. Nurse calls with results states" US showed nothing. Could have been a cyst that ruptured" . Pain to lower left side continues, not constant but excruciating when it does come. Constant migraine. R these ssx common for ruptured cyst that will eventually end alone? If not, what is the next step??
Hello. I have read your query, and feel that significant pain must be investigated. Ovarian causes are a hemorrhagic cyst/rupture or torsion which can give rise to an acute abdomen. However pain should subside if it has ruptured.
If the pelvic ultrasound has not shown anything, it may also mean that the pain maybe arising from a non-gynecological cause, eg. a urinary tract stone. I would suggest you consult a physician and undergo a complete imaging study of the abdomen- ultrasound/CT. Treatment will be cause-specific. Hope this is helpful. Wishing you a fast recovery.
