Could Severe Pain In Lower Ribs And Back Be Due To Spasms In Pancreas?

I have chronic pancreatitis, my enzymes are not always elevated unless I have a severe attack, but the pain in unbearable at times. The ER doctors says cannot be pancreatitis if my enzymes are not elevated. I usually don't go to the ER until I cant stand the pain anymore. sometimes it feels like something is moving in there, could I be having spasms of the pancreas. the pain is mostly under my left breast into my back.

Hello,

Welcome to healthcaremagic.com!

Most probably you'll be aware that pancreatitis is inflammation of the pancreas. Any inflammation in the body have few or more effect on the surrounding tissues, muscles and nerves. So pancreatitis can lead to spasm of pancreas which can lead to pain in lower ribs and back.

Thank you.
Regards,
Dr. Nikhila
