Could Shortness Of Breath Have Been Caused By Cold?

My husband has had shortness of breath for a couple months. Thought it was from a cold. For 4 days now he feels that he can t catch his breath at all times. When doing nothing. He s tired, feet are swollen and says it feels as if his heart is skipping a beat. . His blood pressure since I ve known him has always been high. Today it is 216 over 148.He took blood pressure medicine and it is now 190 over 123. He has sleep apnea and is a diabetic. Since his blood pressure is lowering can he wait to see a doctor . I want to take him to emergency but he is not in agreement. With me.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The reason for breathlessness and high BP along with swollen feet is heart failure. He requires evaluation for that followed by diuretics drugs that will help lowering the swelling and help in breathlessness.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
