Could Sore Throat Along With Cough Be Related To STD?

Hi, I recently developed a sore throat in which I was prescribed an antibiotic. However, due to a recent intercourse I have a feeling this could be something more serious, potentially an STD. I am taking this antibiotic and don t see any reduction in my tonsils, in fact the second tonsil has become enlarged now. I went back looking to get a throat swab to see what has caused this and have questions such as: With a strep throat is there normally mucous, coughing, stuffy nose that comes along with that? Since I noticed the problem in my throat it has only felt like a swollen ball as I swallow and the antibiotic makes swallowing much easier, I just worry I should be seeking a better diagnosis for this and question if I m on an antibiotic will there be a point to getting throat swabs done or potentially seeking an STD clinic. Can you please advise, I m a little confused as to the strange or lack of sister symptoms I thought strep throat came along with. Thank you.

Thanks for consulting at my virtual clinic. I have carefully worked through your case, and I can realize your health worries. Being your physician, I assure you not to worry as I will take care all of your medical concerns.

the current problem is not due to STD. There are disease that spread through kissing that will result as swollen tonsils and painful throat. there is no need to worry you will become normal within a week. some times sever tonsillitis may last for more than 2 weeks.

it is better to consult an ENT specialist and hospitalization may be required, you may need intra-venous antibiotics and intra-venous fluids.

take plenty of liquid foods, do saline or chlorexidin gargling.

one of my friend was having exactly the same complain for almost 2 weeks and after which she recovered.

Hope it helps. If you need further, detailed and quick assistance related to any health issues in future, feel free to 'ask me a question' directly from my profile.

Have a wonderful time ahead.
