Could Sore Throat Post Protected Sex Indicate HIV Infection?
Hi doctor, I had a protected vaginal sex on 8/8/2015 .That was my first & Last exposure. So now 15 days completed. I thought using condom is 100% safe My doubt: I got sore throat alone on 5th day without other common symptoms of hiv(no fever+no body pain+no tiredness+no headache+no running nose+no joint pain+no rash+no diarreah) I know sore throat alone for 8 days(without running nose and cough ) clearly indicates some foreign particle inside me) what it might be ???This is freaking me out Tell me abt the possible & more reliable test for hiv after 20 days from exposure...(waiting for 90 days window will be horrible) Thanks, Prabu
After going through your description, the possibility of HIV infection is remote as you had protected vaginal sex. Also, adding on to it, the complaints you have is just the sore throat and nothing else.
I understand your concern that you need to know about your HIV status despite all these. You can first go for HIV testing by tri-dot method or by blotting method. Since you are very eager to know about the result, you can get HIV tested by PCR method. It may be costing you a little more than what you have anticipated.
However, you need to get your HIV status tested anytime between 3 months to 6 months again to confirm the result that it is negative.
Hope the information provided is clear. All the best.
