Could Sore Throat With Red And Swollen Tonsils Be A Matter Of Concern?

My throat has been painfully sore for two days. No other symptoms. My tonsils are red and swollen. There is a purple streak on one and a small purple dot on my uvula. My husband had a similar sore throat that lasted for 3 days. I m unsure if I should wait it out a bit or if I should go to urgent care tomorrow.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, Welcome
I understand your problem.
From your history, It looks like you have got seasonal flu which is currently swine flu due to H1N1 virus.
Along with sore throat, if you are having high grade fever then you need to take anti viral drug Oseltamivir 2 times a day for 5 days.
If you just have mild sore throat and low fever, then anti viral need not be taken. Take rest, drink plenty of fluid and eat good diet to keep your immunity high.
Hope this will be helpful.
Do ask if any further questions are there.
Take care.
