Could Soreness And Bruising Above Knee Be A Cause For Concern?

I broke through basement step, fell 5 feet but landed on foot. Sore knee but no immediate bruising. 1 week later, bruising begins to appear above knee and on lower thigh. Should there be concern. Still having soreness in that area 8 days after injury?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Soreness and bruising above knee and lower thigh after sustaining injury / trauma is suggestive of soft tissue injury.
The fall has caused soft tissue injury and it needs to be managed.
Soft tissue injury s managed by rest, hot fomentation and pain killers.
Hot fomentation is effective in relieving pain in addition to pain killers.
Bruising is caused by internal bleeding and accumulation of blood in soft tissues.
Bruises take 7-10 days to resolve, thus you can wait for 7-10 days for the bruise to clear.

Thanks and take care
