Could Stiffness In Shoulder Muscles And Neck Be Due To Fenofibrate?

I have Fibromyalgia, I m a Type II Diabetic I have digestive disorders, chronic headaches and migraines and a family history of heart disease, CHF and hyperlipidemia and tryclicerides. I m not able to take any stations for cholesterol due to severe side effects. My Dr just prescribed Fenofibrate 54 mg. And after two weeks it gave me tight shoulder muscles with pain going up my neck and to the side of my face and head. The pain was actually inside my eye and I was was very sensitive to sunlight, as if I had just had them dilated. I do not plan to continue to take them with these side effects. What can I take for my high cholesterol and high triglycerides that won t have such extreme side effects?

Hello,

The discomfort and the pain you are going through. You are on fenofibrate. You are experiencing the side effects of fenofibrate, side effects include muscle aches, cramps, pain, stiffness, swelling or weakness. Feeling unusual tiredness or weakness also are the symptoms of side effect due to fenofibrate. You are suggested to get connected to a Physical therapist for massage therapy, counselling to deal with stress and other things.

To relieve symptoms take Tramadol or Acetaminophen; do exercises and walking. Switching to a healthier lifestyle is necessary to control cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Do regular walking in the morning and evening, and maintain a healthy weight. Take boiled food or food cooked in olive oil.

Avoid taking fried food, oily spicy food, refined flour, full fat dairy products, control your sugar intake, avoid taking sweets and desserts. Take food that is easily digestible, avoid taking red meat. Take lean meat, fish & food rich in omega 3 fatty acids. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle & having quality sleep at night will help to reduce both your cholesterol & triglyceride level naturally. Take food healthy for the heart.

Get your lipid profile tested every 45 days as you have strict control on your diet & are doing exercises. You will see that your cholesterol and triglyceride levels are falling. It will take some time, be perseverant, You will be happy with the results. However, for other medical conditions you should get routine tests done so that treatment can be started.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
