Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Could Stomach Ache Followed By Dry Heaves Indicate Gallstones?
I had gastric by-pass 5 years ago. Since then, I ve had a few kidney stones and know the symptoms of when I m having kidney stones. They always do a KUB and remark about the HUGE amount of gallstones that are present I have not experienced any gallstone pain before that I know of. Today I m experiencing a stomach ache for the last three hours that has progressed to dry heaves. Could this be the gallstones causing the problem? What does gallstone pain feel like? Would it progress to dry heaves?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Priyanka's Response
Hi,
Gallstone pain typically occurs in the upper right quadrant of the abdomen and can sometimes radiate to the back or right shoulder. The pain is often described as a sharp or cramping sensation and may occur after a meal, especially a fatty meal. The pain can last from several minutes to several hours and may be accompanied by nausea and vomiting.
In some cases, gallstone pain can progress to dry heaves. However, there are many other conditions that can cause stomach ache and dry heaves. If you have a history of gallstones, it is possible that they could be causing your symptoms, and your doctor may recommend further testing to confirm this.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
