Could Sty On Upper Eye Lid Be Related To Sore Throat?

hello. I have a sty on my upper lid that has been there for 4 days. Now, I have a sore throat, ear and jaw pain and congestion and running on that side of my face only. Are they related? could it be a bacterial infection? My other eye is gooey and yellow around the lashes too now.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

A sty, which is a red, painful lump on the eyelid, is usually caused by a bacterial infection in the hair follicles of the eyelash. It is unlikely to be related to a sore throat, ear and jaw pain, or congestion. However, if the bacterial infection causing the sty spreads, it is possible for it to cause a secondary infection elsewhere in the body. The symptoms you describe, including a sore throat, ear and jaw pain, and congestion, are more likely to be caused by a viral or bacterial upper respiratory infection. It is possible that the infection has spread to your other eye, causing yellow discharge.

If your symptoms are mild, you may be able to manage them with over-the-counter pain relievers, rest, and fluids. However, if your symptoms are severe or persistent, or if you develop a fever, it is important to see a doctor. They can determine the cause of your symptoms and provide appropriate treatment, which may include antibiotics if a bacterial infection is present.

Gi,

A sty is due to infection of oil glands of the eye. They commonly occur during or after a viral illness like flu, cold etc.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
