Psychiatrist 's  Response
hi...thanks for writing.. i have understood your concerns...

your symptoms must be due to nocturnal panic attacks..
i feel that must have consulted a psychiatrist and he has prescribed u a benzodiazepine [xanax]..if u havent visited a psychiatrist then consult one..

if it is a panic disorder then xanax alone wont work..u have to take one of the antidepressant drug to control anxiety from the root..xanax works for 5 to 6 hrs and when the effects gone the anxiety will come back..long term use of antidepressant medication is indicated in any kind of anxiety disorder..

the other possibilities are of night terrors...but it seems here least likely.

in my opinion u shud consult a psychiatrist and tell him detailed history of your symptoms...follow his instructions and treatment strategy..

i hope u will find this advice helpful...best luck...
