Could Swelling In Ankle Along With Pain In Knee Be Due To Hepatitis B Infection?

Hello Doc. How are you doing? I am an oil professional. I am a research student as well working on Methane gas Hydrates as my PhD project. I have detected Australia Antigen Positive last month and I am being treated with medicines such HepaMerz & Lamivir HBV. Last night I noticed both of my legs were showing swelling from the ankle and the toe area. It was even paining. Now in the morning, it has subsided but the pain has not. It pains in the knee joints. Why is it so? Is it due to Hepatitis or kidney, heart or liver disfunction or medicines side effects? Please reply. I just want to get rid of this illness at earliest. I wanted to ask you a last question that, is this hepatitis b curable 100%? Currently I am in India and wish to go abroad for work and research but I cant go because of this. I had got so many opportunities to go but my medical test failed me, making me unfit to fly out of india. If this is not 100% curable, then is there any chance to minimise it so will my reports will be normal again like earlier. Am I going to die of this?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the chronic hepatitis infection is associated with number of extra hepatic manifestations, one of the which is arthralgia and arthritis involving major joints of lower and upper limb system. However, additional causes of joint effusion, infection, arthritis changes or others must be ruled out with the physician evaluation and supportive X-ray or others.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
