Could Swollen Ankles Have Been Caused By Blood Clot?

For the last couple of months while at work my ankles are swollen by the time I get home, however, the swelling in my right ankle goes down but not in my left ankle. I do have varicose viens in both legs, but was wondering if the continued swelling of the left ankle might be caused by a blood clot?

Hello,

Swollen ankles are commonly caused by water retention or developing kidney problem. Since you have a history of varicose veins, it could be due to it.

Yes, varicose veins, when not treated may cause blood clots. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP & get treated at the earliest. You may have to go through some blood & Imaging tests.

In the meantime, cut on the salt intake. Keep your foot elevated on a stool when sitting & pillow while on bed.

Compression stalkings are helpful to some extent. Your treatment will depend on the reports of the tests done & pathology detected thereafter.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
