Could Swollen, Discolored Hand Post Thumb Injury Indicate Fracture?

how can you tell sprain vs a fracture or break? ligament damage? or just jaming a joint? I injured my thumb in moto race this weekend I have swelling with colors purple and green up my rt thumb and now my whole hand is swelling up. injury was sat 4/11/15 at about 5 pm have been icing and taking ibuprofen

Thanks for your query.
The cardinal signs of fracture are:
- Loss of function
- edema
- Hematoma
- Pain
- And obviously the X-ray.

The spread in your case of the edema is indicative of fracture.
Get an X-ray before more complications occur, get a proper treatment before healing becomes a problem.
