Could Swollen, Sore And Burning Vagina With Thick Discharge Indicate Yeast Infection?

Hello, My name is Kierra. In August of 2014 I received birth control called nexplanon shortly after I had my son. Ever since then I stayed on period for about 2 weeks up to a month and my guess would be because of my birth control. June 21 of 2015 I came on my period and i'm still on, so yes I've been on for 10 days now, but shortly after I came on my period my vagina starts to swell up and is very soar and it burns when I have to use the restroom, and oatmeal looking stuff starts to come out my vagina. Could I have a yeast infection and if so what should I do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello.
Thank you for contacting HCM.

You seem to be suffering from Vaginitis. If I was your treating physician I would perform a vaginal swab culture and urine culture first of all to reach the confirm diagnosis and its type.....it may be either of three ( bacterial, fungal or trichomhoniasis) then my treatment plan would be according to the culture reports. The most common type is fungal and for that I would prescribe an oral course of tab. Fluconazole once daily or vaginal clotrimazole cream.
I would strongly recommend that you consult a gynecologist for this problem as this medicine can have side effects and the dosage has to be monitored carefully.

Meanwhile take extra care of hygiene of genital area, wear cotton undergarments and frequents changing of tampons.

I hope this answers your question. Please feel free to contact HCM again if you have any concerns.
Wishing you good health.
