Could Swollen Tongue And Neck Pain Be Symptoms Of Heart Stroke?
Hi. My mum had a stroke two weeks ago and was told this was caused by carotid artery blockage, with 60 - 69% stenosis with ? Occlusion in the vertebral artery and was discharged being told she would need endartectomy within a week. Following her discharge and her case reviewed at Mdt meeting, they are no longer doing surgery. I m not sure why ? Last night she was rushed back in with a acutely swollen tongue, numbness in her forehead ( the same side of her stroke) and severe neck pain which she was experiencing when she had a stroke. They have put the swelling to her medication. Could this have been a stroke and why would they no longer feel she needs surgery with such a stenosis. Thanks Lorraine
* The swelling tongue is not usual sign of underlying stroke in most of the instances.
* The hypersensitivity reaction to certain drugs do represent as angioedema through anaphylaxis pathway and cause tongue swelling with associated symptoms.
However, details of the drug list is mandatory to discuss further regarding the same.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
