Could Symptoms Of Low BP And Fatigue While On Gluten Free Diet Mean Low Potassium Levels?

My wife is experiencing some low blood pressure symptoms, but seems to have near normal pressure. She feels some tiredness and flu like spacey not normal condition. These are intermittent cycles that have been occurring over the past 6 months. She has had a physical within this time period, but received no specific treatment or explanation from her physician. I know low potassium can be one of many causes for this feeling. She has had some irritable bowel syndrome and got treatment. She is on a gluten free diet. But the above condition persists and interrupts normal daily activities. She is 68 and maintains an office work schedule.

Hi,

It is possible that low potassium levels could contribute to the symptoms of low blood pressure and fatigue that your wife is experiencing. Other possible causes could include dehydration, anemia, medication side effects, and certain medical conditions. It would be a good idea for your wife to have her potassium levels checked, as well as other blood tests to rule out any underlying medical issues. Additionally, she should discuss her symptoms with her physician for any further testing or treatment if necessary.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
