Could The Dry Mouth, Painful White Dot On My Tongue, And Constipation Be Side Effects Of Taking Phentermine For 5 Months?
I have been on a diet pill phenyermine for 5 month. I have a dry month which I have read is common, about once a week I get a small white dot on my tongue that is painful for a few days then goes away. For the past 6 constipation has been a big problem. Your thoughts?
The phentermine can cause constipation and mouth sores. Interestingly, some patients may have diarrhea instead of constipation, it varies. You can try to treat the constipation by increasing your fluid input, increased use of fiber to at least 5 servings a day, if this is a problem then you can use a fiber supplement. In addition to occasional use of a stool softener or laxative may be required.
In terms of the sores, because phentermine decreases saliva production, it can cause dry mouth, dryness of the mouth and the continued decreased saliva production can cause sores to occur. As you noted, these can heal spontaneously.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson, General & Family Physician
