Could The Hairy Looking Tongue Be Due To Lichen Planus?
I just found out I have lichen planus and it started a couple months ago on my penis. It started to go away on its own before I even found out what it was. My dermatologist prescribed me hydrocortisone valerate and things are looking a little better. Some scarring but can't feel any raised bumps anymore. Also my tongue looks like "hairy tongue", a typical problem with smokers but unlike pictures iv'e seen, it was more a white color. Well I recently had my wisdom teeth pulled and was on antibiotis and my tongue got really sore and sensitive to spice. The "hairy" looking stuff began disappearing and now my tongue is completely normal looking. Could this be related to LP?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..
As per your query and a history of taking antibiotics the white stuff over tongue does not seems to be hairy tongue but it looks like Oral yeast infection known as Oral Thrush and white cheesy coating is a hallmark finding in case of oral thrush and it only causes soreness of tongue and if the lesion is scraped it leaves a raw surface below.. As you were taking antibiotics it is seen in some individuals during antibiotic intake due to killing of the good bacteria of mouth also along with bad ones due to which there can be overgrowth of opportunistic organisms like Fungus.. As it is cleared off now you need not to worry but in case if it ever occur again you will have to take anti-fungal medicines like Nystatin mouthwash, clotrimazole lozenges and take more of probiotics like Yoghurt and garlic.. Drink plenty of water and maintain a good oral hygiene..
Hope this information helps..
