Could The High ESR Level Be Due To Low Blood Count?

I am due my second Prolia injection for osteoprosis. My ESR was 18. I need to be within 1-15 range. I was referred back to my GP. I am concerned. I am a 66 year old female and suffer from a lot of mucas. Could this have a bearing on my low blood count? Thank you for your attention. Veronica Russell

Hi Veronica, thanks for posting your concern in the HCM.
I think plenty of mucus or phlegm and high ESR may be due to allergic condition. You need have a complete blood count in which your white cell count would rule out any bacterial infection and/ or inflammation. The absolute eosinophil count would provide information regarding allergy.
For the time being my recommendations are-
1. Plenty of oral fluid (2-3 lit/day)
2. Please maintain good oral hygiene
3. Avoid dust, cold and any known allergen.
4. You may take some antihistaminic (e.g. Cetirizine 10 mg once daily for 7 days). You may also need Montelukast and estimation of Ig E level if not relieved.
5. Regular gurgle with lukewarm water twice daily and steam inhalation may help you for the mucous problem
