Could The Intake Of Risperdal Have Any Side Effects?

hi I am a 50 yr old female who has been batteling mental illness since I was 16 I was on abilify an that worked very good but I coudnt handle the extreme weight gain I am also a recovering heroin addict of 6 yrs my doc would like me to try Risperdal I am hesitant if its going to have the same affect?
