Could The Irregular Heart Beat Be Related To High Sugar Levels?

Due to irregular heartbeat, my cardiologist prescribed Klor Con M20 in case my potassium was low. I am pre-diabetic and I ve noticed several times my blood sugar has risen to over 200 after taking the Klor Con. Could there be a connection between the two?

Hi, thanks for posting your concern in the HCM. I don't think Klor con M20 should be incriminated for your impaired glucose control. It has been only given to treat hypokalemia and the consequent arrhythmia. However, a random blood glucose more than 200 should be considered as diabetes. You should have a fasting plasma glucose and HBA1c test done, so that specific treatment in accordance with the international guideline can be started. For the time being you should maintain proper dietary control for your diabetes. Exercise or brisk walking can be judiciously considered by your cardiologist depending upon the arrhythmia. For any further query, please write back to us. Regards. Dr. Kaushik
