Could The Lonart Ds Have Made The Postinor 2 Inefficient?

Hi. Im 32years old. Weigh 70kg and have no medical history. I was placed on antimalaria medication (LONART DS) for 3days. I took it for the first 2days (22nd and 23rd October) but stopped because of the side effects. The first day of my last MP was 18th October and it lasted for 3days. I had unprotected sex on the 25th and took postinor 2 immediately. However, i had a blood discharge on 1st of November and stains a few days afterwards. I have also had abdominal and navel pains and back ache too. Can i be pregnant? I have used the home pregnancy test strip and it says negative. But im just worried. Could the LONART DS have made the Postinor 2 ineffecient?

Hi,

Lonart DS is a combination of two medicines artemether and lumefantrine commonly prescribed to treat malaria.

IF taken together artemether may reduce the blood levels and effects of positnor-2 and thus making it inefficient.

Since you stopped taking Lonart DS due to its side effects then had an unprotected sex on 25th and took positnor-2 immediately so the contraceptive effects of positnor-2 is thus not affected and hence you are still protected against pregnancy.

Based on the history you seem to have developed the side effects of positnor-2 which usually subside within three to four days.

Hope I have answered your queries. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
