Could The Sharp Pain In Abdomen And Back For Every Few Minutes Mean Labor?

I am 20 years old and I am 38 weeks pregnant. This is my first pregnancy. I woke up around 9 this morning with a constant mild pain in my stomach. Now it is almost 3 in the afternoon and the pain has progressed. It is in my stomach and my back and about every 7 to 8 minutes the pain gets really sharp and last about 40 to 45 seconds. Do you think I am going into labor and need to get to my hospital or can I wait until my appointment in the morning?

Hi,
I understand your concern.

- A labor pain starts in back, comes forward to abdomen, makes uterus as hard as a stone. It comes & goes. The distance between two pains decreases while the duration of pain increases as the labor progresses.
- There is increased vaginal discharge with each pain. may accompany tingeof blood/ blood stained mucus.
- As labor progresses to have pain every 7-8 minutes,& lasts for 40 seconds, it creates bearing down feeling.
* You don't describe any discharge/pressure with pain- still because you are 1st timer, & running 38thweek -
* you should not wait for routine appointment, should get to your hospital soon.
Thanks.
